Legend of Bandung Bondowoso
This popular legend tells of a tragedy of a man named Bandung Bondowoso powerful who want to marry a beautiful princess named Roro Jonggrang-daughter of a king named Prabau Boko.
But the princess refused subtle way, namely by submitting a request to make a thousand statues in 1 night. While Bondowoso make the final sculpture is assisted by a group of jinn, Roro Jonggrang collect some women to pestle pounding rice. An activity which indicates that the morning soon arrived and made a big bonfire on the eastern side, which led to the east is red which means the sun has risen.
This makes the genie who helps Bondowoso is believed that the morning had arrived and they immediately disappeared.
Roro Jonggrang soon come and wake Bondowoso from meditation to inform him that he had failed to meet his demands. After knowing the lie Roro Jonggrang, Bondowoso became very angry and cursed him into a statue of Goddess Durga, which in the end the statue was to complement other statues for 1000 amounted to comply as requested by Roro Jonggrang.
